EXTENDED OCB Scientific Steering Committee Nominations by Friday, November 22!
We are seeking additional nominees with expertise in the following areas:
- Data science and its intersection with ocean and carbon cycle science
- Large scale inorganic carbon cycle – modeling, observations, etc.
- Paleo perspectives on ocean biogeochemical cycles and marine ecosystems
- Benthic processes – sediment biogeochemistry, diagenesis, ecology, etc.
The following SSC members are scheduled to rotate off at the end of 2024:
- Jeff Bowman (SIO) – microbial ecology, bioinformatics, coastal and high latitude ecosystems, modeling
- Susanne Craig (NASA GSFC) – satellite RS, bio-optics, machine learning techniques and ocean color algorithm development
- Tim DeVries (UCSB) – carbon cycle modeling (biological & solubility pumps), inverse modeling of ocean circulation and mixing, carbon sequestration/marine CDR
- Zachary Erickson (NOAA PMEL) – biophysical interactions
- Shaily Rahman (Univ Colorado, Boulder) – marine biogeochemistry and sedimentary processes
Please consider casting a diverse net in submitting nominations. We are seeking to entrain new voices and ideas in OCB! Nominees should be at US-based institutions (including Univ. Puerto Rico, Univ. Virgin Islands or in other US territories, minority-serving institutions, including historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, tribal colleges and universities, etc.). Nominees are evaluated using a rubric that includes consideration of geography (balance across the SSC), science expertise, career stage and other diversity and equity measures. We encourage re-nomination if a prior nomination round was not successful. Many SSC members are nominated multiple times before becoming members! OCB SSC members serve a 3-year term.
