This is a request for nominations for Review Editors for an “Highly Influential Scientific Assessment” (report) on carbon cycle science. The US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) and Carbon Cycle Interagency Working group is producing an assessment of the carbon cycle that is part of the Sustained Assessment function of the USGCRP and that will inform the 4th quadrennial National Climate Assessment (NCA4). We are calling this report the 2nd State of the Carbon Cycle Report, or SOCCR-2 (the first was published in 2007) and it is currently being reviewed by the USGCRP agencies after which it will be prepared for release for an 8-week public comment period and a 9-week review by the National Academy of Science. The Federal Steering Committee for this report is seeking nominations for Review Editors to ensure that all substantive comments submitted during the Public Comment Period and via a National Academy of Sciences (NAS) panel review are appropriately addressed. This work includes, advising Chapter Leads on how to handle contentious issues and ensuring that genuine controversies are reflected adequately in the text. We anticipate enlisting 4-6 REs, each to cover different groups of SOCCR-2 chapters. The timeframe for this service will begin this Fall and we anticipate that the REs’ reports will be due to the SOCCR-2 Federal Steering committee in the Spring of 2018. We hope to release/publish the final report in Spring of 2018. Review editors will be listed on the title page of this report and credited on the chapters that they helped with.
