Post doc opportunity in Denmark
Postdoc position at the Center for Geomicrobiology
Department of Biological Sciences, University of Aarhus, Denmark
Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoc position at the Center for Geomicrobiology and the Section for Microbiology, starting from 1 February 2010 or as soon as possible.
We seek a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in molecular microbial
ecology to establish single-cell microbiological techniques for application in microbial
ecology (to study e.g. marine sediments or symbiotic systems). The successful candidate
will be part of a joint effort of the Center for Geomicrobiology (head: Prof. Bo Barker
Jørgensen) and the Section for Microbiology (head: Assoc. Prof. Andreas Schramm) to use laser microdissection microscopy and microfluidic cell-sorting technology for sorting single cells from environmental samples, with subsequent whole-genome amplification and simultaneous determination of identity and genetic potential of single prokaryotic cells.
Qualifications for the position must include:
− relevant university education and PhD degree, preferably form a university outside
Denmark
− experience in molecular ecology (DNA/RNA based studies of microbial ecology)
and/or microbiological and microscopic techniques; experience in single-cell
methods, (CARD-) FISH, or MDA will be an advantage
− ability to work and collaborate in a group, to develop new ideas, and to write and
communicate in English.
The Center for Geomicrobiology was established in 2007 to explore diversity and function of prokaryotic microorganisms in the subsurface seabed (the marine “deep biosphere”); it is collaborating closely with the Section for Microbiology, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Aarhus, which has a strong research focus on microbial ecology and biogeochemistry in general, and on aquatic nitrogen cycling in particular.
For more information, please contact Dr. Andreas Schramm (phone +45 8942 3248; Email andreas.schramm@biology.au.dk) or Prof. Bo Barker Jørgensen (phone +45 8942 3314; Email bo.barker@biology.au.dk).
Details about formalities and salary range can be found at http://science.au.dk/stillinger-ogstipendier/ videnskabelige-stillinger/
All applications must be made online and received by 10 January 2010.
