OS24: "Organic Geotraces": Towards an Understanding of the Distribution
of Organic Matter in the Oceans.

Description:  Our understanding of spatial variability in organic
properties throughout the oceanic water column remains rudimentary,
especially at the molecular level. New methods are emerging for high
sensitivity and rapid characterization of organic matter (OM) in both
the dissolved and particulate phases, resulting in new insights on the
interaction between biological and biogeochemical processes, and on
their legacy in marine sediments. We invite abstracts which highlight
new methods that survey OM distributions and reactivity in water column
and sediments, particularly integrating biogeochemical and biological
questions using chemical, isotopic, optical and/or molecular biological
